ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ اتَّبَعُوا مَا أَسْخَطَ اللَّهَ وَكَرِهُوا رِضْوَانَهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ

That is because they followed that which angered Allah and disliked [what earns] His pleasure, so He rendered worthless their deeds.
